Edna Hill has been living at New Community Extended Care Facility for several years. She is currently the oldest resident in the facility at the age of 97.
She enjoys being a resident at Extended Care, which is located at 266 South Orange Ave., Newark, saying that everyone is very kind.
“They’re wonderful people that live and work here,” she said.
Hill enjoys spending time in the activity room with her neighbors. She is not able to use her hands well or walk so she is not able to physically participate in many of the activities, but she often watches others play cards.
“Edna Hill is somebody who is always very happy and enjoys life,” said Extended Care Administrator Veronica Onwunaka. “She is thankful no matter what and makes people feel relaxed and appreciated.”
Hill is originally from Florida and moved to Newark after getting married. Her husband couldn’t find a good job in the Sunshine State and decided to look north. The couple relocated to Newark when he found work and Hill has remained in the city ever since.
The couple had six children, three sons and three daughters. Hill said her children still live nearby. Her husband, who she loved very much, is deceased.
Hill is happy that she currently resides at Extended Care.
“I like it here,” she said. “It’s a nice place to live.”
